Hospitalisations in the Murcia Region aren’t translating into serious illnesses and ICU admissions remain low
Last week, Spain celebrated two national holidays and as a result, the coronavirus pandemic data has been delayed by several days. The latest report was published by the regional health authorities on Monday December 12 and shows increases across the board, most notably in hospitalisations, which have risen by 13 patients in the past two weeks.
On the other hand, the all-important incidence rate has continued its downward trend and is now more than 20 points lower than the average in Spain.
Coronavirus infections
The Region of Murcia has registered a total of 977 cases of coronavirus in the latest update.
This brings the overall number of infections since the beginning of the pandemic to 462,227.
Of the total cases, 89,223 have been diagnosed in people over the age of 60.
Cumulative incidence rate
The latest data provided by the regional health authorities on Monday December 12 show that the 7-day cumulative incidence rate has taken another welcome dip, dropping to just 57.92 cases per 100,000 inhabitants. This is an excellent indication that infection numbers should continue to fall in the coming days.
However, the more important average incidence over a two-week period has experienced a dramatic decrease, dropping more than 23 points in the last two weeks to stand at 132.60 cases per 100,000 inhabitants.
Hospital pressure has jumped up considerably with 46 patients currently admitted for Covid (an increase of 13 since November 29), two of whom are begin treated for more serious symptoms in the Region’s ICU (an increase of one patient).
Eight additional Covid-related fatalities have been registered, bringing the overall death toll since the start of the health crisis to 2,482.
Covid testing
The Region of Murcia has carried out 3,244,273 PCR and antigen coronavirus detection tests.
Vaccination data
According to Spanish Ministry of Health data, 94% of the population of the Murcia Region over the age of 12 has had a least one dose. In addition, 93.60% of people are now double jabbed.
