ARCHIVED - Pandemic curve flattens out once more: Murcia Covid update January 17
ARCHIVED ARTICLE -
After shooting up last week, hospitalisations and the incidence rate have stabilised in the Murcia Region
The coronavirus pandemic is still delivering surprises week on week, and nowhere is this more evident than in the Region of Murcia, where the data relating to infections, hospitalisations and fatalities rise and fall with dizzying speed.
In the report covering January 5 to 12, hospital admissions jumped by a worrying 25.2% before dropping dramatically again this week. Likewise, the incidence rate in people over the age of 60 shot up by 18 points only to fall significantly in Monday January 16’s report.
Coronavirus infections
The Region of Murcia has registered a total of 413 cases of coronavirus in the latest update, an increase on the 379 infections recorded a week ago.
This brings the overall number of infections since the beginning of the pandemic to 464,262.
Of the total cases, 91,039 have been diagnosed in people over the age of 60, which is 317 more than in last week’s report.
Cumulative incidence rate
The 14-day cumulative rate has registered another significant drop this week, falling from 140.53 infections per 100,000 inhabitants to 125.59. Crucially, the corresponding 7-day figure has also plummeted to 55.78 cases which strongly indicates that infections will continue to decrease.
After increasing significantly last week, hospital pressure has taken a welcome dip with 57 patients currently admitted for Covid (a decrease of 3 since last Monday), 4 of whom are being treated for more serious symptoms in the Region’s ICU (one less).
Three additional Covid-related fatalities have been registered, bringing the overall death toll since the start of the health crisis to 2,505.
Covid testing
The Region of Murcia has carried out 3,260,941 PCR and antigen coronavirus detection tests.
Vaccination data
According to Spanish Ministry of Health data, 94% of the population of the Murcia Region over the age of 12 has had a least one dose. In addition, 93.60% of people are now double jabbed.
