ARCHIVED - Biggest drop in hospital admissions since September: Andalusia Covid update January 24
ARCHIVED ARTICLE
The number of people admitted to hospital with coronavirus has fallen by 74, the highest single fall since last September
14-day incidence rate in Andalucía since March 2020
The cumulative incidence rate in Andalucía has fallen slightly again, and there were half as many new cases this Monday as last, while hospital pressure, which the regional health authorities have signalled as the greatest indicator of the current health situation, may be showing the first signs of easing too.
New infections
Andalucía has registered 8,937 new cases of Covid-19 in the last two days, which is about half of what was registered this time last week for the Sunday and Monday, when there were 16,498 cases recorded.
Since the start of the pandemic, the total number of cases reported in Andalucía is 1,205,075.
Cumulative incidence rate
The 14-day cumulative incidence rate has dropped 54 points, and now stands at 1,387.3 cases per 100,000 inhabitants. The only Andalusian province with an incidence rate below 1,000 cases is Sevilla, with 993, and the province with the highest incidence is Almería, with 2,396.2.
Hospitalisations
Andalucía recorded a drop of 74 hospitalisations due to coronavirus in the last 48 hours, down to a total of 2,057, which is the largest decrease since September 6 2021 (-81), and an increase of 235 on last week. ICU patients remained at 236, eight fewer than a week ago.
Deaths
In the last 48 hours, 25 people have died from the virus in the region, bringing the total number of deaths since the start of the pandemic to 11,933.
Vaccinations
Now that most adults who want to have been vaccinated, the vaccination programme is beginning to slow down in Andalucía. Fewer than 4,000 people received their second dose this weekend, taking the total up to 7,021,003 people. The number of people getting their first jab continues to increase – up nearly 20,000 since Friday to 7,485,413 – mainly because they are children under 11 years old.
That still leaves 11.6% of people in the region totally unvaccinated, and the health authorities are, as ever, encouraging people to get jabbed to avoid becoming infected and spreading this deadly disease further.
