Camposol D Sector Gardening and Community Group - Summer update
ARCHIVED ARTICLE -
With summer well and truly here Camposol D Sector Gardening and Community Group keeps working to improve the area for residents and holidaymakers
The month of June, with its long sunny days and dry weather, definitely proved to be a productive month for the D Sector gardening volunteers. An influx of new volunteers has enabled the teams to focus on areas that haven't been worked on for a few years, the outcome of which meant the the first 6 months of the year ended on a high.
At the junction of Calle Esparraguera, one of the longest roads on Sector D, and Avenida de los Covachos the main dual carriage way, one team concentrated on tree, palm and hedge pruning, also adding a new seating area overlooking the Petanca court.
A second team focused their efforts on the tidying and rejuvenating the verges along the western end of Avenida de los Covachos. A number of the volunteers remembered creating the gravelled areas, planting the oleanders and creating the wishing well, and this time the work involved strimming overgrown weeds, trimming the palms and oleanders and cleaning up the verges and bin area.
The resulting vista provides nearby residents, pedestrians and drivers with panoramic views across the countryside and hills beyond.
Sadly, it is not all positve news as some person or persons with little or no moral values decided to knock down the Remembrance Cross placed at the entrance to sector D, not once but on two separate occasions. This shows a lack of tremendous respect for those we remember each Remembrance Day.
A new metal cross has been installed along with new solar lights and we look forward to creating our remembrance display around this feature in the run-up to next Armistice Day.
The gardening teams would like to thank everyone for the offers of water, tea, coffee and biscuits: we appreciate this kind gesture! Special thanks to the residents on Avenida de los Covachos and Calle Esparraguera.
A quick consensus of the teams showed the favourites are the chocolate biscuits and sweets, which of course need to be eaten quickly to avoid melting - well, that’s their excuse and they are sticking to it.
With the holiday season upon us the gardening teams are taking a well earned break but will be back in September. Next month, Pat Ridler the President of D Community and Gardening Group will be reflecting on the work of the Group and upcoming projects.
