After several weeks of seesawing data, the Region of Murcia appears to have overcome its plateau and on Thursday March 31, the regional health authorities confirmed that the number of daily cases was 51% lower than on the same day last week.
In line with the positive evolution, the Minister of Health, Juan Jose Pedreno, has gone ahead with his plans to close all but one of the mass vaccination centres in Murcia in the month of April. From today, only the immunisation point in the Myrtea shopping centre will remain open, and healthcare staff at this facility can offer the Covid jab to up to 300 people each day.
Coronavirus infections
On the last day of March, the health authorities registered 220 new Covid cases, fewer than half the number reported last Thursday (450). Health data in the Region now also specifies the number of vulnerable people (over 60, pregnant women and immunosupressed patients) who have become infected by Covid, which on Thursday amounted to 87.
Of the 220 new cases, 84 correspond to the municipality of Murcia, 36 to Cartagena, 15 to Lorca and 5 to Molina de Segura, Cehegín, Alcantarilla and Los Alcázares. The remaining infections are distributed across the other municipalities.
Since the health crisis began, 2,766,229 diagnostic tests have been carried out in the Region and a total of 391,367 people have tested positive.
Cumulative incidence rate
Since the last update four days ago, the cumulative incidence rate has dropped significantly from 479.1 cases per 100,000 inhabitants to 433.1 cases. This is well below the national average of 466.51 cases.
Hospitalisations
The situation also continues to improve in the Region’s hospitals, where 87 people remain admitted, five fewer than the previous day. Of these, 13 are being treated in ICUs for more serious conditions, a figure that has remained steady since last Tuesday.
Fatalities
One more Covid-related fatality has been reported, that of a 92-year-old woman from health area IV (Caravaca).
This brings the overall death toll since the beginning of the pandemic to 2,205.
Vaccination data
Since the last update, 91.73% of the entire population of the Murcia Region has had at least one dose. In addition, 84.01% of people are now double-jabbed.
