The Region has reported five more fatalities but hospital pressure continues to abate
After two long months, the incidence rate in the Region of Murcia over a week-long period has finally dropped below 500 on Tuesday February 15, as daily infections continue to decline at a steady rate.
In addition, the 14-day rate has fallen below 1,500 cases per 100,000 inhabitants. Although this is still higher than the national average of 1,244, it is more than 1,000 points lower than it was on this same day last week.
Coronavirus infections
Daily infections continue to drop and on Tuesday February 15, a total of 804 Covid cases were registered, 248 fewer than the previous day.
Of the new infections, 278 correspond to the municipality of Murcia, 118 to Cartagena, 36 to Molina de Segura, 32 to Lorca, 26 to Torre Pacheco, 23 to San Javier, 21 to Águilas, 21 to Caravaca de la Cruz and 20 to La Union. The remaining cases are distributed across the other municipalities.
This brings the overall number of infections since the beginning of the coronavirus pandemic to 355,703.
There are currently 13,308 active cases in the Region, 573 fewer than on Monday, while 12,939 people are currently self-isolating at home.
Hospitalisations
Hospital pressure has also improved in recent days with 369 patients now admitted for Covid (down 27 on yesterday’s figures). Of these, 53 are being treated in the Region’s intensive care units for more serious symptoms (compared to 54 on Monday).
Fatalities
Five more Covid-related deaths have been reported by the regional health authorities in the last 24 hours, which brings the total death toll since the health crisis began to 2,117.
The deceased are three men and two women aged between 75 and 89 years; two from health area I (Murcia Oeste), two from area VIII (Mar Menor) and one from area IX (Vega Alta del Segura).
