ARCHIVED - Hospitalisations drop below 100: Murcia Covid update March 22
ARCHIVED ARTICLE
This is the lowest number of daily hospital admissions in the Murcia Region since before the sixth wave
The various coronavirus data from the Region of Murcia have been experiencing highs and lows over the past couple of weeks, but the one constant has been the decline in hospital admissions, the main factor which the Minister of Health believes signifies the end of the sixth wave of the pandemic.
However, despite the positive evolution overall, the Spanish government has twice in the last week postponed the approval of the new ‘Surveillance and Control Strategy against Covid-19’, and the WHO commented in recent days that the health crisis “is far from over”.
Carolina Darias, on the other hand, gave a message of hope, asserting that “there is a trend that is consolidating towards stabilisation and decline.”
Coronavirus infections
The Region of Murcia registered 625 new coronavirus infections on Monday March 21, whereas last week, daily cases ranged between 400 and 500.
Of the new infections, 218 correspond to the municipality of Murcia, 120 to Cartagena, 29 to Molina de Segura, 26 to Alcantarilla, 18 to Lorca, 18 to La Union, 15 to Águilas, 15 to Cieza, 11 to San Javier, 11 to Torre Pacheco, 10 to Bullas and 10 to Cehegin. The remaining cases are distributed across the other municipalities.
This figure brings the total number of infections since the beginning of the pandemic to 385,646, while 379,888 people have recovered from the virus.
Cumulative incidence rate
With the increase in daily infections, the seven-day cumulative incidence rate has also risen slightly after a continuous downward streak and stands at 209.3 cases per 100,000 inhabitants.
The incidence rate at 14 days continues to fall and has reached 433 cases, which is now below the national Spanish average of 436 infections per 100,000.
Hospitalisations
Hospitalisations for Covid have dropped below 100 for the first time since the beginning of December, before the sixth wave broke out.
There are currently 93 people hospitalised with coronavirus in the Region of Murcia, of which 14 are being treated for more serious cases in the ICUs.
Fatalities
The Region has registered one more Covid-related death since the last update, which brings the overall death toll since the health crisis began to 2,192.
The deceased is a 75-year-old man from health area I (Murcia Oeste).
Vaccination data
Since Murcia’s vaccination campaign began in December 2020, 91.68% of the entire population of the Murcia Region has had at least one dose. In addition, 83.80% of people are now double-jabbed.
