The incidence rate in the Murcia Region is inching closer to the national average after weeks at the top of the list
The pandemic situation in the Region of Murcia is improving on a daily basis and nowhere is this more evident than with regard to the cumulative incidence rate, which has dropped an impressive 137 points in just one week.
This 14-day figure now stands at just 489.26 cases per 100,000 inhabitants, which is coming very close to the Spanish national average of 429 cases. After skirting around the top of the list in the first weeks of 2022, the Region’s incidence is now almost half that of the Canary Islands, which registered a figure of 865 cases on March 10.
Coronavirus infections
The regional health authorities registered a total of 379 new coronavirus infections on Thursday March 10, a significant decrease on the 496 cases reported on the same day last week.
Of the new positives, 140 correspond to the municipality of Murcia, 74 to Cartagena, 14 to Alcantarilla, 14 to Molina de Segura, 11 to Lorca, 11 to Yecla, 9 to Caravaca de la Cruz. The remaining infections are distributed across the other municipalities.
This figure brings the total number of infections since the beginning of the pandemic to 377,776, while 370,802 patients have overcome the virus.
Right now there are 4,659 people in home isolation with milder cases of Covid, down from 4,750 yesterday.
Active cases have also dropped in the last 24 hours, going from 4,898 to 4,795.
Hospitalisations
Hospital admissions have also registered another notable decrease on March 10: there are currently 136 patients being treated for coronavirus, 12 fewer than on the previous day, while 24 of these are being treated for more serious symptoms in the Region’s ICUs, down from 27 on Wednesday.
Fatalities
In the last 24 hours, two more people have lost their lives to Covid. The deceased are a woman and a man, aged 65 and 93, both from health area II (Cartagena).
These fatalities bring the overall death toll since the beginning of the pandemic to 2,179.
Vaccination data
Since Spain’s vaccination campaign began in December 2020, 91.61% of the entire population of the Murcia Region has had a least one dose. In addition, 83.31% of people are now double jabbed.
