ARCHIVED - Record number of new covid cases in Murcia on Sunday: 259
ARCHIVED ARTICLE
This is the second new record in three days
Nb; These are official figures published by the Region of Murcia Health Authority, the SMS; see image below for verification.
Murcia has broken two records on Sunday; the highest number of covid cases in a 24 hour period and the highest total of covid positives to date.
The last time Murcia broke its highest cases in a day record was on Friday, when 155 new cases were recorded. On Saturday the new cases fell back to 144, but have surged again on Sunday to 259, a new record high.
This brings the total number of active cases up to 2,055 and the total number of cases diagnosed since the pandemic began to 6,389.
1935 patients with mild symptoms are in home isolation, with 120 hospitalised and 18 in intensive care.
75 of the new cases are in Lorca, 68 in Murcia City, 23 in Cartagena, 14 in Alhama de Murcia, 8 in Jumilla, 7 in Totana, 6 in Ceutí, 6 in Caravaca de la Cruz, 5 in Lorquí, 5 in Molina de Segura and the remainder scattered around the region in smaller numbers. The figures by municipality are published on a Wednesday evening.
11 of the irregular migrants who arrived in the region on Friday have also tested positive.
The new active cases total of 2,055 is also the highest ever recorded in the region; a record which is currently being broken every day.
39 people have joined the list of cured, bringing this total to 2,472. To this figure can be added the 1706 individuals who have tested positive using the antibody test method, as they no longer show any symptoms, having suffered mild cases or were asymptomatic; antibody tests are NOT included in the Spanish national totals either, although many regions of Spain do include them within their regional figures when presenting case numbers. They are NOT included in the WHO figures either.
During the last 24 hours, 2,324 PCR and 54 antibody tests were undertaken.
There have been no further fatalities since yesterday and this total remains at 156.
NB: The figures presented always relate to the previous day, so these are the Saturday figures, published on Sunday. Monday figures are usually considerably lower as there is less staff activity on Sundays.
On Friday the national figures published for Spain were the highest for some considerable time, the official total number of cases increasing by 8,148. No figures are published across the weekend, so the next set of figures won't be available until 5pm on Monday evening. The figures are expected to be quite high as the major cities of Spain have continued to publish high totals in their local area reports across the weekend.
There is an acceptance from the national Ministry of Health that the figures are accelerating and that in some areas of the country the escalation is considered to be "out of control" (see Thursday national figures for verification of this statement in the feed below), but the health ministry is still reluctant to accept that a second wave has begun.
