ARCHIVED - Round-up of Covid cases in Spain by region weekend 22nd/23rd August

Some of the 17 autonomous regions don´t publish covid data figures at the weekend.

In the last four days, infections have exceeded a thousand every day in Catalonia; Galicia has registered almost twice as many new infections on Sunday compared to last week; and in the Balearic Islands, active cases have practically tripled in two weeks.

ANDALUSIA

- On Saturday Andalusia reported 647 new cases, 2 deaths, and 31 hospitalisations 6 of which were in intensive care. On Sunday Andalusia reported a total of 593 new coronavirus positives and two deaths, according to data from the regional Ministry of Health. The region has accumulated 20 deaths since August 16th and has 267 patients hospitalised, 36 of them in Intensive Care (ICU).

ARAGÓN
- Aragón notified 272 cases this Saturday, a figure considerably lower than the 699 reached on August 7th, but considerably higher than the 33 it reported at the end of the state of alarm on June 21st. On Sunday 493 was the highest figure for 8 days (on the 15th, 624 cases were reported)

ASTURIAS
- On Saturday Asturias notified 31 new positives and on Sunday the first fatality due to coronavirus in the last 26 days along with 26 new cases. Asturias is the community with the lowest accumulated incidence in the entire country, with an average of 33 cases diagnosed per 100,000 inhabitants in the last two weeks. On Sunday one positive was notified at the Montevil Gerontological Center in Gijón. Sespa will begin to carry out PCR tests on all residents and workers.

BALEARIC ISLANDS
Active cases of coronavirus have practically tripled in two weeks in the Balearic Islands to 1,741,and the accumulated incidence in the islands is close to 172 cases, making the archipelago the sixth community with the most infected by habitant.

According to yesterday's latest report, the Balearic Islands had an incidence of 171.9 cases in the last 14 days, only surpassed by five communities: Aragón, Madrid, the Basque Country, Navarra and La Rioja. This figure places the community in the high risk band (above 100), and the average across all regions is 142.27 cases.

This week the health authority reported 38 new outbreaks -35 of them in Mallorca and the other 3 in the Pitiusas-, double the 19 that were reported the previous week.

Covid positives in Balearic Islands care homes go from 1 to 23 in 3 weeks

CANARY ISLANDS
Positive cases in the Canary Islands have increased by 293 in the last 24 hours as a result of which the active cases in the Canary Islands have risen to 2,136, with 117 hospitalized of which 18 are in ICU.

In total, 4,853 positive cases have been recorded in the Canary Islands since the pandemic began.

Gran Canaria leads the accumulated positives with 2,188 infections, 145 in the last 24 hours. Of this number, 1,434 are active patients, 1,357 are in home isolation, 65 hospitalized and 12 in the ICU.

Tenerife, has registered 2,022 infections since the start of the pandemic, 47 in the last day. However, the evolution of the pandemic is different from that of Gran Canaria and currently Tenerife has 426 active cases, 393 in home isolation, 28 hospitalized and 5 in ICU.

Lanzarote has an accumulted total of 304 cases, 61 new cases yesterday, 206 of them active, of which 200 are patients in isolation, 5 in the ward and one in the ICU.

Fuerteventura has reported 192 positives since the beginning of the pandemic, 11 new cases yesterday, 47 of them active in home isolation; and La Palma has two new infections in the last 24 hours, and 16 active cases.

La Gomera has 14 total positives, five new infections and El Hierro has 5 accumulated cases, with two new cases.
Las Palmas de Gran Canaria accumulates more than half of the assets

So far, 224,969 PCR tests have been carried out in the Archipelago, 2,733 of them in the last 24 hours, with a total percentage of 2.98% of positive cases.

The number of deaths remains today at 167.

CANTABRIA
- Cantabria has registered 105 new positives; 74 on Saturday and 31 on Sunday. There are 783 active cases and 32 people hospitalized, of which three are in ICU. Another 751 remain in home quarantine.

CASTILLA LA MANCHA
- Castilla-La Mancha, which has closed brothels and prohibited the nightly sale of alcohol as of this weekend as part of a wide range of measures has proposed special measures to stop the expansion of COVID-19 in Fuensalida and La Nava de Ricomalillo, in Toledo, and in Azuqueca de Henares and Marchamalo, in Guadalajara.

The judge has disavowed some of the measures ordered in Alcázar de San Juan and Campo de Criptana, in Ciudad Real, as well as extending the mandatory nature of masks in all public spaces.

Castilla-La Mancha, after occupying the third position among the communities most affected by daily cases in the first months of the pandemic, is currently in the seventh position.

The cumulative incidence of diagnosed cases per 100,000 inhabitants in the last 14 days is 96.51, the national average being 149.75.

The cumulative incidence of cases diagnosed per 100,000 inhabitants in the last 7 days is 50.96, the national average being 78.82.

CASTILLA AND LEÓN
On Sunday the Junta de Castilla y León confirmed an outbreak in the Valladolid municipality of Torrelobatón. On Saturday the Ministry of Health ordered the isolation of Cantalejo and Carrascal del Río (Segovia) due to the pandemic, a measure that has been ratified by a judge for the next 14 days.

The Cardenal Marcelo residence for the elderly in Valladolid, has two infected residents and thirteen isolated, plus four workers in quarantine.

CATALONIA
In the last four days, infections have exceeded a thousand every day.

On Sunday Catalonia reported an accumulated total of 120,547 cases to date, an increase of 1,168 in the last 24 hours.

The total number of fatalities has increased by 16 to 12,954; 7,127 in hospital, 4,130 in residencias, 820 at home and 877 of unspecified location.

657 patients are hospitalised,132 in UCI.

This Monday, mass PCR tests will be reactivated in some neighborhoods in order to detect asymptomatic cases. The Generalitat has adopted special measures in Reus due to the increase in cases.

EXTREMADURA
- Extremadura has exceeded a hundred new infections this Sunday (102) and has declared two new outbreaks, in Pizarro and Fuente del Maestre, which brings the current number to 42. For the first time in the last three days there have been no fatalities. There are 31 people admitted to hospitals, three more than the day before, and four of them are in UCI units.

In addition, this region has four population centers in phase 2 de-escalation, three of them with social isolation: La Barquilla and Alcántara, in the province of Cáceres; and Villarta de los Montes and La Morera, in Badajoz.

GALICIA
On Sunday, August 16th Galicia had 1,282 cases; after notifying 158 new cases this Sunday, Galicia now has 2,306 affected, a thousand more cases in a single week. Yesterday the Administration notified the death of a third resident of the O Incio nursing home operated by the Xunta.

MADRID
Five new outbreaks were notified in Madrid on Saturday with a total of 74 cases, 217 contacts in follow-up and one death.
The first outbreak is in Leganés, with 19 positive cases, three contacts under follow-up and one person hospitalized. The outbreak originated in the family, at a meal that brought together 22 members of various families.
The second outbreak is in a social-health center in Pozuelo de Alarcón, with 21 cases and 30 people under follow-up. One person has required hospital admission and a resident of the center has died. The outbreak affects 16 residents and five workers.
The third outbreak originated in the Gregorio Marañón University Hospital, with 15 cases (four with symptoms and the rest asymptomatic) of which 13 are patients and two are professionals from the center. In total, 81 close contacts are being followed in the hospital and in the family environment, all without symptoms.
The fourth corresponds to the outbreak that forced the closure of the V Centenario Health Center in San Sebastián de los Reyes, with 11 positive cases and 66 contacts (work, family and social) in follow-up. The center is currently closed.
The fifth outbreak has occurred in Alcobendas, in a social activity group with eight positive cases and 37 people under follow-up.

The General Directorate of Public Health of the Community of Madrid has ordered the closure of the hotel and restaurant establishments and the suspension of collective leisure activities, events and markets in the town of Tielmes, which has a cumulative incidence of 339 in the last 14 days as well as recommending voluntary confinement of residents.
No cases figures are released at the weekend.

MURCIA
- The Region of Murcia notified 259 new infections on Sunday, a record level for the region. 1,935 patients remain in home isolation with mild cases and 120 are admitted to hospitals, with 18 ICU patients. The total number of cases in Murcia is 2055.

BASQUE COUNTRY (País Vasco)
The Basque Country has added 661 positive cases to its total, the third highest figure since the beginning of the pandemic after that registered last Thursday (724) and on March 25th (723) during confinement. There are 35 new hospital admissions, two more than the previous day; and 21 patients remain in the UCI units.

LA RIOJA
Social events and family gatherings organized in the Rioja municipality of Alfaro after the suspension of its patron saint festivities have caused up to nine infections and left more than a hundred people confined to their homes for having been in direct contact with positive cases.

Currently in La Rioja there are 601 active cases of covid and a total of 2,491 people confined to their homes, with 17 active outbreaks and 30 cases (28 in the ward and two in the ICU).

VALENCIAN COMMUNITY
From August 1st to 22nd, 270 outbreaks of COVID-19 have been registered with a total of 1,274 infected.
On Saturday the Valencian Community registered 483 new covid infections in the last 24 hours, and has detected eleven new outbreaks, one of them with 24 people affected in Benigànim (Valencia)
The total number of positives since the beginning of the pandemic in the Valencian Community has now risen to 19,605 people. By province, there have been 42 new cases in Castellón (2,257 in total); 143 in the province of Alicante (6,208 in total); and 292 in the province of Valencia (11,077 in total). In addition, there are six unassigned cases, bringing the cumulative unassigned cases to 63.

Since the last update on Friday, there have been no deaths.

In addition, eleven new outbreaks have been detected. The most significant corresponds to the municipality of Benigànim, with 24 related positives at the moment, although all with mild symptoms.

The Xàtiva-Ontinyent Health Department, Public Health and Primary Care are monitoring and studying cases related to this latest Benigànim outbreak. As is mandatory, positive cases have been isolated.

The rest of the outbreaks detected are all of social origin. Three of them have related cases, in Benifaió, La Nucía and València. There are three new outbreaks with four cases in Algemesí, Massanassa and Ontinyent; another outbreak in Quart de Poblet with five people affected; one in Novelda with six related positives and an outbreak in Xirivella with seven affected and another that affects Massanassa and Alfafar with nine cases.
